FOUCHY
A statue of the Virgin Mary seen on a mountain road near Fouchy, south of Strasbourg. In mid-December, the 3rd Division began the process of attaching to the French First Army. The 30th Regiment's Task Force McGarr began moving south on December 13 to attach to the 36th Infantry Division under French II Corps. The task force included the 41st Field Artillery and elements of the 10th Engineers, 441st Antiaircraft Battalion, 756th Tank Battalion, and tank destroyers from the French 5th Armored Division. The day before the start of the German's surprise offensive in Belgium, the task force — named for Colonel Lionel C. McGarr — commenced separate assaults towards Kaysersberg and Sigolsheim.
