COLMAR POCKET
The situation on the front around Colmar on December 15, 1944. The French First Army with the attached American 36th Division was struggling to push into the bulge as German resistance was determined and continually reinforced. The Ardennes attack resulted in a stay on plans to reduce the Colmar Pocket and sent the Sixth Army Group on the task of straightening lines and planning for defensive withdrawal with a possibility of abandoning the city of Strasbourg.
