LA COUCCURDE
A further kilometer north from Derbiere is La Couccurde where the valley widened and a connecting road led east to Condillac Pass. In the early part of the battle for Montelimar, Task Force Butler held the hills to the east overlooking La Couccurde. With attached artillery, the unit's cat and mouse harassment slowed the movement of the retreating Germans who staged their final counterattack here. The most successful roadblock mounted was on the 25th and 26th when the 141st Regiment blocked Highway 7 approaching La Couccurde with two rifle companies, four tanks and seven tank destroyers before being driven toward the Condillac Pass. The "success" cost the blocking units three tanks and six tank destroyers.
