DERBIERE
The remains of horse-drawn carts pushed to the roadside in Derbiere, 9.5 km north of Montelimar. The retreating German convoy from southern France included naval and Luftwaffe support troops and administrative personnel, civilians, the baggage of two years of occupation and the usual mix of valuables. Derbiere and La Couccurde saw heavy fighting during the battle with back and forth control as Task Force Butler initially attempted to block Highway 7 in the vicinity of La Couccurde.
