NEUF BRISACH
By Feb. 6, the last of the traffic from the German retreat passed through Neuf Brisach to escape across the Rhine River. Troops from the 1st Battalion, 30th Regiment entered the fort and rounded up 76 prisoners without a fight. The Germans left 22,000 POWs behind but escaped with over 50,000 troops before destroying the Rhine bridges.
