OSTHEIM
A view of Ostheim across a destroyed bridge on the Fecht River to the east reveals the near-total destruction of the village during the Colmar Pocket fighting. Ostheim, with a history dating to 785 AD, was shelled for nearly 60 days and was later awarded the French Croix de Guerre in November of 1948. The 1st Battalion of the 7th Regiment passed through a wooded area filled with wire obstacles and mines on its way to Ostheim from the north.
