SIGOLSHEIM

A strongly-defended Sigolsheim was attacked by the 15th Regiment on December 26 with a two-day house-to-house battle after they fought long and hard for Hill 351 to the north in action commenced on Christmas Eve. By securing Bennwihr and Sigolsheim, the 15th Regiment annihilated the German's Zeiher Battle Group and SS Battle Group Braun taking over 500 prisoners in the five days of battle. In the last week of December, the 3rd Division was supplemented by the 254th Regiment of the 63rd Infantry Division. With the 254th Regiment on the left flank, the 3rd Division's line stretched 15 miles and remained relatively static until late January 1945.
