OBERSALZBURG - May 5, 1945
Adolf Hitler purchased a large chalet at Obersalzberg in 1934 named Haus Wachenfeld perched on Kehlstein Mountain. It was extensively remodeled with elaborate additions and decorated in a pretentious style. The Berghof as it was known was where Hitler entertained his cronies and planned and executed much of the Second World War. This view shows the April 25 R.A.F damage to the still-smoldering Berghof from a direct hit to the east wing from the hillside behind.
