The Japanese ambassador to Germany, Baron Hiroshi Oshima (right) sits with his naval attache in a Bad Gastein Hotel in the charge of the 3rd Division in May 1945. Oshima, a high-level confidant to Adolf Hitler, was appointed Ambassador to Germany in 1938 and is described as being "more Nazi than the Nazis". Over 130 Japanese were held at the Hotel Sontgen and Haus Hirt in Bad Gastein before their transfer to the Bedford Hotel in Bedford, Pennsylvania where over 180 were eventually held.
