MUNICH

Evidence of bomb damage inside the Karlstor Gate with the Oberpollinger department store, operating since 1905, right-center. The building suffered extensive damage to its facade, however the ship weather vanes survived. Close to 90 percent of the Altstadt experienced severe damaged from Allied carpet bombing. Munich suffered as many as 450 4,000-lb bombs; 61,000 high-explosive bombs; and over 3,300,000 4-lb magnesium incendiary bombs damaging half of Munich including 81,500 houses completely or partially destroyed.
