SALZBURG
Hitler's "beloved Austria" was central in his plans to govern Europe and beyond. Berchtesgaden and Salzburg were filled with plundered extravagances and treasure.
As the war ended, art, gold, jeweled Nazi medals, and a tremendous booty from the policy of genocide were found throughout the region. At the nearby Altaussee Salt Mines, the majority of looted Nazi art was found.
