RADDON
Fighting passed through Raddon as 3rd Division troops captured Faucogney on Sept. 19. The fight overlooking Raddon was complete with a 200-man fanatical SS force shouting, in English, their wish to die for Hitler. It was during this action that Sgt. Harold O. Messerschmidt sacrificed his life and was awarded the Medal of Honor. The 30th Regiment was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for its role at Raddon.
