SAINT DIE

Little warning was given to the occupants of the homes and businesses in St. Die before retreating German troops set it aflame. In the background is the Roman Catholic L'Eglise Notre Dame de Galilee, dating to 1711, it is constructed with the unique pink sandstone of the Vosges. Although, seemingly intact, the vault was destroyed by the Germans during the destruction of the city. It was extensively reconstructed and was consecrated again in 1974.
