AUDIE MURPHY MEDAL CEREMONY

The 3rd Division Commander John W. O'Daniel with Seventh Army Commander Alexander Patch and Secretary of War Robert P. Patterson in Salzburg, Austria. Patterson, a decorated soldier of WWI, was a supporter of increased African-American participation in the military and was instrumental in the development of the Tuskegee Airmen, however, he did not support full integration of the military.
