SALZBURG

Lucky soldiers of the 3rd Division, posing on a "40 and 8", are shipping out for the states. A point system was used called the Advanced Service Rating Score with 85 points being the lucky number for a ticket home. Points were tallied for each month of service, each month overseas, awards earned, campaigns and even for each child under the age of 18 (up to three total). By the end of the war in Europe, the 3rd Division was in combat longer than many divisions since landing near Casablanca in November 1942.
