GUEMAR
A line of tanks assembled for artillery support in the Colmar Pocket. In the 3rd Division's preparation for its January 22 attack south from Guemar, diligence was paid to the disposition and conditions of the Fecht, Ill, and Weiss rivers as well as the Colmar Canal and other marshes and streams. With daytime temperatures reaching only 10 degrees Fahrenheit, the attack from Guemar called for crossing the frozen Fecht River into Ostheim and the Ill River toward Houssen and Holtzwhihr. The entire Allied timetable relied on completing the task before rivers thawed and roads turned to mud.
