RIBEAUVILLE
Seen here is a V-mail Christmas greeting from the 3rd Division. A joint effort of the Signal Corps and the USPS, V-mail was processed from a single page letter onto microfilm and then flown to the U.S. where it was delivered as a 4.25 x 5.25 photographic print within two weeks. Tens of millions of letters were processed monthly at the height of the war. V-mail was based on an Eastman Kodak patent developed by the British as Airgraphs that was designed to reduce the weight of transporting regular mail.
