KAYSERSBERG

Christmas Day at the 30th Regiment headquarters in Kaysersberg, France. Kaysersberg, near the center of the 130-mile German line, fell after a fierce contest on Dec. 20, although the German army remained entrenched outside the city. During the fighting around Kaysersberg, 2nd Battalion commander Lt. Col. Frederick R. Armstrong was killed by artillery while supervising forward positions. He was replaced by Maj. James L. Osgard.
