GERMAN OCCUPATION 1945
The 3rd Division moved to Germany from Austria in July 1945. This map shows the area of occupation of the 3rd Division in Hesse with an expanded section assigned to the 15th Regiment in 1946 where the 3rd Division advanced into Germany in March 1945. Bad Wildungen is marked as the 3rd Division command post in the upper part of the map. This area stretches north from the Rhine River in the south including Frankfurt in the southeast and Kassel in the north. SHAEF had headquarters in the area of Frankfurt.
