SALZBURG - GNIGL POW CAMP
A night view of the 3rd Division POW camp at Salzburg in the Gnigl district. The Nazis arrived in 1938 to an economically distressed Salzburg with promises of jobs. Many of its citizens embraced the Nazi party but not without a large opposition. Austria went from six years of Nazi occupation to ten years of American occupation through 1955.
