DACHAU
The gates at Dachau held the same slogan found at Auschwitz: "Arbeit Macht Frei". The officers here are being escorted by an inmate explaining the atrocities they are viewing. Dachau served as a training ground for both Adolf Eichman and Rudolf Hess as the first of Germany's concentration camps. Dachau was mainly a work camp where as many as 32,000 died from disease, malnutrition, oppression, and execution. Countless more were transported to the extermination camps in German-occupied Poland.
