POPPENLAUER
Flags fashioned from anything that was white including underwear, bed sheets and nightgowns were a familiar scene to advancing American troops in Germany in 1945 as seen here in Poppenlauer. In some towns crowds would gather to watch the advancing American columns with a mix of awe, relief, and hostility. Poppenlauer was captured without a fight.
