POPPENLAUER

A jeep bypasses the damaged Ludwigstrasse bridge crossing the Lauer River in Poppenlauer. With the end of the war in Europe less than a month away, the German resistance was not formidable, yet very spirited. The 3rd Division reported picking up hundreds of enemy stragglers, some in civilian clothes, and one outpost reported an officer and a master sergeant cycling through who were "going home".
