RED BEACH - BAY OF CAVALAIRE
At the end of the floating pier, a tank of the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion is directed onto the beach. According to photographer Howard Nickelson, the pier was brought in to facilitate larger ships that could not offload directly to the beach.
