Operation Dragoon Air Assault

Detailed map showing the Operation Dragoon air drop zones around Le Muy. One unplanned consequence of the missed airdrops was the capture of LXII Corps HQ and General Neuling in Draguignan and the confusion created when the HQ was cut off from communication. A glider drop at 0815 was aborted due to fog with the towed gliders returning to Rome. The return trip, later in the afternoon, saw the gliders suffering anti-glider stakes in the drop zones. Only 50 gliders of 900 were salvageable. Overall, 9,000 airborne troops were dropped with decisive assistance from the F.F.I. Casualties for the airborne units was 230.
