Operation Dragoon Air Assault
Operation Dragoon's 1st Airborne Task Force was a short-lived airborne unit created for the southern France landings under the command of Major General Robert T. Frederick. The airdrop commenced at 0330 centered around Le Muy with 800-foot thick fog obscuring the zone. Only the British 2nd Independent Paratroop Brigade landed correctly. Some paratroopers were dropped in the sea and two companies and two artillery batteries of the 509th PIR where dropped on the St. Tropez peninsula. As a result, Le Muy was not captured until D+1. This photo shows a secondary drop on 15 August 1944.
