HIROSHI OSHIMA - SALZBURG
In early July 1945, 33 Japanese diplomats including Ambassador Hiroshi Oshima left Salzburg, Austria for Le Havre where the sailed to New York aboard the U.S.S. West Point. As Japan's ambassador to Germany, Hiroshi Oshima had been in Berlin since 1935. His detailed diplomatic communications were unwittingly a main source for Allied intelligence working at Bletchley Park after code breakers cracked the German's diplomatic cipher "purple" in 1940.
