ROME - PIAZZA VENEZIA
The Monument of King Vittorio Emanuele II, the former King of Sardegna and one of the heroes of the liberation of Italy. Emanuele joined with Guisseppe Garibaldi to establish the Kingdom of Italy in 1861. At the base of the monument is Italy's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier erected in 1921. The white-marble monument behind is the Altar of the Fatherland constructed from 1885-1911 facing the Piazza Venezia.
