ROME
In Rome, the photographers now numbered five with the addition of Bill "Pop" Heller, Bill Toomey and Bobby Seesock. Here, Jack Cole and Pop Heller pose with a cafe sign for a favorite American treat: Double Malted Milk. As the 3rd Division hunkered down as the city's garrison force, Gen. Clark bestowed tribute on the "combined efforts of the French, British and American troops" who had liberated the city. Also in Rome, a second star was pinned on the lapel of 3rd Division General John "Iron Mike" O'Daniel.
