AVANNE
A view of Avanne, France in September, 1944. The bridge across the Doubs River entering Avanne from the south can be seen left of center. By September 5, 3rd Division troops were in position south and east of Besancon near Avanne and Larnod. VI Corps advanced the 3rd, 45th and the 3rd Algerian divisions abreast to Besancon on a one-day fuel supply.
