VAGNEY
Vagney on the division's right flank was captured by the 7th Regiment in the face of stubborn resistance on October 7 and a battalion command post was established. This tank of the 756th Tank Batallion is the tank that responded to a surprise night attack by an enemy tank and 30 infantry soldiers that threatened the 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry command post and was hit three times killing all but one of its crew. A Medal of Honor was awarded to 2nd Lt. James L Harris, who commanded the tank platoon in Vagney that day. Harris was killed responding to the attack.
