KAISERLAUTERN
Harry S. Clark, Oscar L. Bedford, Marion A. Summers and Chin Yu of the 3rd Division Headquarters Company admire a bit of GI humor in Kaiserlautern. Simultaneous Rhine River crossings on the entire western front were set for late March, however, the unexpected capture of the famed Ludendorf Bridge at Remagen distinguished men of the 27th Armored Infantry Battalion as the first invading army since the Napoleonic Wars to reach the east side of the Rhine River on March 7, 1945.
