STRASBOURG
The mood is festive at the Strasbourg reception for Gen. Schwartz. Schwartz commanded the 10th French Military District that was assuming administrative and security control of Strasbourg. As Christmas 1944 approached, The 3rd Division was ordered to leave Strasbourg to move south to the western edge of the Vosges Mountains facing Colmar where the 36th Division, attached to French II Corps, held the line north of a large German bridgehead across the Rhine known as the Colmar Pocket.
