FORT OF MUTZIG
A soldier of Company E, 30th Regiment faces the Germans dug in at the Ostfort, a component of the Fort of Mutzig. The fort was built by Germany after the Franco-Prussian War to protect Strasbourg. It was surrendered to the French after WWI. As part of the Maginot Line it was overrun by the Germans in 1940.
