BOBENHEIM-SANDHOFEN

The 3rd Medical Battalion's ambulance C-11 is loaded for transfer across the Rhine River on a heavy pontoon ferry near Sandhofen, Germany. Most likely it is the first ambulance crossing the Rhine for the Seventh Army. Its driver, Dell S. Thornton of Company C, 3rd Medical, is seen next to the ambulance. Support rafts ferried troops and equipment across the Rhine prior to completion of the floating bridges.
