SIEGFRIED LINE

The Allies called tank traps like these near Zweibrucken, dragon's teeth and pimples; the Germans called them hockers (humps). The humps were usually built in four or five rows of progressing height. The assault on the fortifications was bitterly contested until the effect of the German rear being cut by the Third Army, along with a relentless attack, forced the enemy to surrender and retreat.
