SIEGFRIED LINE

The Allies called tank traps like these near Zweibrucken, dragon's teeth; the Germans called them hockers (humps). The humps were usually built in four or five rows of progressing height. The dragon's teeth sat on a concrete slab buried in the ground with an anti-tank ditch to the front and rear. The assault on the fortifications was bitterly contested until the effect of the German rear being cut by the Third Army, along with a relentless attack, forced the enemy to surrender and retreat.
