On April 22, 1945 on the VIP grandstand of the Zeppelintribune, five soldiers of the American 3rd Division are awarded the Medal of Honor. Left to right: Lt. Col. Keith L. Ware (California — later killed in Viet Nam while commanding the 1st Infantry Division), Lt. John J. Tominac (Pennsylvania), T-Sgt. Russell E. Dunham (Missouri), S-Sgt. Lucian Adams (Texas) and Pfc. Wilburn K. Ross (Kentucky).
