By April 15, the entire Division was assembled near Baiersdorf east of the Pegnitz River and the 30th Regiment was the first to cross for the assault on Nuremberg. The Luftwaffe made more frequent appearances on the approach. In Erlangen, the German colonel that surrendered the city committed suicide after agreeing to terms. Resistance was mainly from anti-aircarft guns and artillery that formed a ring around Nuremberg. In this image to the northeast of Nuremberg, an artillery shell
