HASSFURT
At the Hassfurt Rathaus, civilians gather to read military notices including General Eisenhower's Proclamation No. 1 that demanded compliance, set a curfew, limited travel and collected all communication equipment and weapons. The proclamation began "We come as a victorious army, not as oppressors." German soldiers attempted a stand northwest of Hassfurt before withdrawing to menacing high-ground positions above the town before a day of fighting from the 7th Regiment cleared them out on April 12.
