PORT OF POZZUOLI
This photo from February 1944 during the Anzio resupply shows the Malva Dock, the Ansaldo Pier, and the Caligula Pier filled with landing craft stretching to Via Roma in the Porto di Pozzuoli. The dock numbers are painted on the buildings, right foreground. There are two German vehicles, an Opel Blitz and a Kubelwagon under the sign for dock 2. In the lower center is the Commodore's boat, while on the dock is a staff car. LST 197 shows the use of the recesses carved into the stone for its ramp. LST 197 was hit by German artillery off Anzio a few days later. She suffered 17 casualties and was sent to a drydock for repairs.
