Newly-appointed Seventh Army commander Maj. Gen. Alexander M. Patch reviews 3rd Division troops in Pozzuoli with its commander, Maj. Gen. John W. O'Daniel; VI Corps commander, Lucian K. Truscott; and Rear Admiral Frank J. Lowry commander of Operation Dragoon's Alpha Force and the Anzio landings. Patch was distinguished for his action leading relief of embattled marines
on Guadalcanal that secured America's first Pacific Theater land victory in February 1943.
