ANZIO BEACHHEAD
One of the 3rd Division horses gave birth to a mule at Anzio. On Sicily, the 3rd Division captured hundreds of horses and mules. General Truscott pressed them into service on his drive to Messina and they added enough value to be shipped to Italy when the fighting moved there. When fighting bogged down at Anzio, Truscott's horse troop was disbanded.
