REMIREMONT - GEORGE C. MARSHALL
Chief of Staff, George C. Marshall addresses the 3rd Division command in Remiremont with Lt. Gen. Truscott, Maj. Gen O'Daniel and Lt. Gen. Devers looking on. Marshall had just recently been promoted to a five-star rank and became General of the Army. As Secretary of State under Harry S. Truman, Marshall authored the Marshall Plan — the basis for rebuilding Europe — and thusly is the only professional soldier to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
