CLEURIE QUARRY
The battle for the quarry raged in the first week of October and at one point pitted the opposing forces as close as 75 yards apart. German forces had been reinforced and had barricaded the entrances to the quarry that had the 10th Engineers committed to blowing them open. By October 5, the battle was over. The climax included a 1,100-round creeping mortar barrage that finished the six-day fight.
