ETIVAL
To the north of Nompatelize, in Etival-Clairfontaine, rubble from the belfry of the 12th-century Abbey Saint Pierre d'Etival has tumbled into the churchyard. Photographers Bill Heller and Bobby Seesock are on the rubble pile. Just under Bobby at center-left is the church bell. The 15th Regiment captured Etival on November 8 along the northern edge of the 3rd Division's sector as it cleared the area north of St. Die along the Meurthe River.
