MUTZIG
On a road entering Mutzig, an M8 scout car of the 3rd Recon Troop fell victim to a German anti-tank gun. Mutzig was ringed by ancient forts that were part of the Maginot Line defense. Pfc. Simon Quiroz, the only 3rd Division soldier to die during the liberation of Mutzig, was later honored in Strasbourg.
