NATZWIELER-STRUTHOF

The First French Army liberated Natzwieler-Struthoff concentration camp southeast of Schirmeck on November 23, 1944. About 52,000 prisoners were estimated to have been held there during the war. It was a labor camp and held resistance members from France and other occupied territories and was used as a place of execution later in the war.
