SAALES
American soldiers turned back a German counterattack against Saales, where much of the German's Winter Line was still under construction. German troops captured near Saales had expected to spend the winter there. Saales' capture introduced the 3rd Division to the Alsatian territory and ensured the drive to the Rhine River.
