CATHEDRALE NOTRE-DAME

The Cathedrale Notre-Dame in Strasbourg was proposed in 1015 and sits on the site of an ancient Roman garrison. The north tower was completed in 1439 and was the highest structure in the world until 1874. The south tower was never built. Much of the stained glass was removed by the Nazis and stored in a salt mine near Heilbronn in Germany. After cataloguing by the Monuments, Fine Arts and Archives program, it was returned to the cathedral after the war.
