SIEGFRIED LINE

Zigzag trenches on the Siegfried Line near Zweibrucken. After the German's Ardennes and Nordwind offenses in Dec. 1944, the western front was at a stalemate through the winter. The Germans took advantage of this time to fortify the West Wall along it's entire front, a task they had begun in earnest the previous August.
